STELAR Passage in House Huge Win for Consumers

Nov 19, 2014

Following today’s unanimous vote in the House to pass the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act Reauthorization (STELAR) of 2014, the American Television Alliance issued the following statement:

“Broadcasters can black out TV viewers, but they can’t black out retransmission consent reform. Today’s passage of STELAR is a huge victory for consumers around the country. For the last two years, broadcasters have tried to prevent much-needed retrans reforms so they could protect their profits. The revisions to the retrans system contained in STELAR prove that Congress recognizes that retrans is broken. We look forward to working with the Senate leadership to help ensure STELAR becomes law.”
