ATVA Statement on Today’s Communications Act Update Hearing

Washington, D.C. January 15, 2014 – Following today’s hearing in the House Communications and Technology Subcommittee on updating the Communications Act, the American Television Alliance issued the following statement:

We agree with Chairman Walden’s statement today that the “laws that regulate this industry are outdated at best and some are affirmatively damaging” and we thank him and the rest of the Committee for seeking to modernize the Communications Act. But we also agree with Ranking Member Eshoo that the process “should not derail … a more immediate update of our video laws, a view shared by a majority of the witnesses at a September Subcommittee hearing.” As Ranking Member Eshoo indicated, with existing bipartisan support, our video laws can and should be updated in 2014.
