Halfway to A Hundred Blackouts: More Than a Dozen New Stations Affected
Posted by admin on June 8, 2012Washington, D.C. June 8, 2012 – Are broadcasters going for the record books in 2012? This week started with two new blackouts and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. No sooner do they give viewers back their programming in one market, they pull the plug on 14 more stations, bringing this year’s total to 53 markets. The tally continues to climb – making 2012 the worst year for blackouts – with six months remaining. When will enough be enough?
Today’s blackouts: KREX (Fox) and KFQX (Fox) in Grand Junction, Colo.; KFYR (NBC) in Minot and KVLY (NBC) and KXJB (CBS) in Fargo, N.D.; WMBB(ABC) in Panama City, Fla.; KNOP (NBC) and KIIT (Fox) in North Platte and KHAS (NBC) in Lincoln, Neb.; KSFY (ABC) in Sioux Falls, S.D.; and KNOE (CBS) and KAQY (ABC) in Monroe and KALB (NBC) and NALB (CBS) in Alexandria, La.

Hoak Broadcasting and Dish reached an agreement. Channels restored in those effected markets.
